Mary Ellen (¹Michael) Mulick

Mary Ellen Mulick was born 1/1838 in County Roscommon, Ireland. Remarkably, this Irish Catholic family immigrated to America  before the Great Famine.

On 11/4/1855 Mary Ellen is first found in Indiana where she married Michael Maloney b. 1811 in Mountrath, County Laois, Ireland. Michael had been married previously. Son Michael was only six years younger than Mary Ellen.

Michael and Mary Ellen are found in Indiana in 1853 where son Patrick was born. Before 1860 the family migrated to Douglas Co IL where daughter Catherine was born. And by 1865, they migrated to Denison, Crawford Co IA.

Michael and Mary Ellen farmed in the Irish Catholic settlement south of Denison. Michael died in 1875 in Crawford Co IA and is buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery, Denison IA. After Michael's death, according to a descendant of Michael, the family "scattered off," leaving each child to make their way in the world. And, this is true.

By 1900 Mary Ellen migrated west to Council Bluffs IA in the company of son Andrew D and daughter Anna. By 1910 Mary Ellen was living with daughter Mary Ann Longmade. Mary died 3/16/1925 in Pottawattamie Co IA and is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Council Bluffs IA.
